I am looking forward to going on a long hike that either begin or ends with me on the docks at Tell Your Friends Cafe drinking a mocha.

What's one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

It is common for people to be afraid of the dark, but I am afraid of the sun, so if you see someone this summer on a Bowen beach wearing jeans and a sweatshirt while covering their head with a beach towel and sitting in one of those pop-up UV-protection domes for babies that is stationed under a tree, that's most likely me.

What’s the best words of advice on writing you’ve ever been given?

You'll have to trust me that the longer version of this story is full of Hitchcockian twists and turns, and teeming with the wit of a David Sedaris essay, but due to the space constraints of a social media-friendly response, you're stuck with the only the punch line: the best piece of writing advice I've ever received came from Margaret Atwood, who told me, "Just pretend you're a writer."

What do you like to read? Is there a book you could recommend?

Is it too on the nose to recommend to my fellow islanders the beautifully-written book of short stories The Islands by Dionne Irving? I also loved Jason Heroux's book of poetry Like a Trophy from the Sun and his short story collection Survivors of the Hive.
